Nice description [on the X-men thread]
Why is the "Misc" sub-forum have more posts than all the other sub-forums combined?
Please do not perceive this message in a negative way. These are issues that have been bothering me for some time now.
I don't have anything against the "Misc" forum, but we need to talk more about ideas for strategy club, so that the club will have more members and have more fun for future years to come. I do not want to see the club fall apart and not do anything fun, like the Comedy Club. I do not want this club to end up like Hamlet, always planning to do things, but never actually executing them until it is too late.
Collaboration and Variety are essential for the club to thrive.
Have to remember that I am going to graduate from Landstown in only a month and a half. A month and a half before me and the piper go away.
In future years after I have left and the Vice President becomes President, then maybe I wouldn't be making such a big deal. But for this month and a half, I am making a big deal about it because I want the club to go and experience new games and ideas. I don't mind if the members of the club agrees on their favorite games to play, such as Yu-Gi-Oh. But I don't want the club to be absorbed in just that one game.
It's called the Strategy Club, not the Yu-Gi-Oh! club. Don't get me wrong, I do like playing Yu-Gi-Oh occasionally, but Strategy Club encompasses all strategy related games: Board, Card, Role Playing, and Wargames.
I know the reasons why Yu-Gi-Oh players love Yu-Gi-Oh. It's easy to learn, simple to play, fun to collect, a joy to compete, can be personalized to fit a player's specific tastes, and can be played on nearly any flat, stable surface. But if the club does become absorbed into only one game (e.g: Yu-Gi-Oh!), people would begin to wonder why the club exists since it only seems to cater to only a few individuals. Sure, a few may argue that Chess Club only seems to cater to those who are enthusiastic about Chess, but Chess has been around much longer than Yu-Gi-Oh. Chess is, and will always be, more universally recognized by "mainstream masses" than Yu-Gi-Oh. Unfortunately, the Mass of Society perceives Yu-Gi-Oh as just a child's game with no real intellectual value. All Yu-Gi-Oh players (including myself) would be quick to attack this statement, saying that the game does have intellectual value. It teaches you how to add/subtract numbers in your head quickly, how to outsmart a human opponent, reading comprehension, speaking skills, planning, execution, etc. To try and change all of Society's negative view about the game would take an enormous amount of effort, adding up to millions of dollars. It would be impossible.
If the Strategy Club became self-centered only on Yu-Gi-Oh, which is already beginning to happen, the club would dwindle down into nothing-ness. Most people would not want to associate with a club that only caters to those who like only what the club likes and is not open to a variety of different tastes.
I believe, but cannot say for sure, that Landstown High School is the only school in the VBPCS district that has a Strategy Club so far. (with the exception of maybe Plaza Middle). At any rate, the members of the club need to communicate with the officers and vice versa so that we can do activities that the club enjoys and increase the club's membership rate for next year.
To sum this up in a few sentences: Communication and variety are essential for the Strategy club to thrive for future years to come. If you have an idea, such as a logo for a T-Shirt (which we do need) or somewhere for us to go, post it on the forum at:
lhsstrategyclub.proboards.com
and/or email it to me at:
riceball@lavabit.com
Signing up for the forum only takes a minute. Whenever you check your emails, you should check the forum, if humanely possible.
Please respond to this email so that I know you read it. Officers and members please email, especially me, more often if you have ideas for the club so that I can address them for the next meeting. I would appreciate it very much.
Remember, we only have 3 meetings left. Lets make them enjoyable. At the end of this year, students and teachers should be saying how awesome it was, not how much it failed. The club needs to be more prepared, for next year's members. I wish to have as few regrets as possible.
Strategy Club is going to see Star Trek on Monday, May 11, 2009 @ AMC Lynnhaven 18. Tickets are $5
Next Strategy Club is on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 from 2:15pm-4:00pm. If you have a logo design for a T-Shirt, please bring it.
