Hi all, this is Bruce from ETV. I just joined Strategy club at the last meeting on May 12th. During the meeting, LARPing (live Action Role Play) was discussed. Although I missed the beginning of the meeting, I mentioned to some of you that I knew of a large LARPing league who has written complete rules and comprehensive how-to documents. That group is Dagorhir. Here are the Rules and the How-To for making weapons and armor. Warning: These documents are a little complex and can take a while to read if you're not used to legal and/or technical writing. Planning for this (and especially making the weapons) will take a lot of work. I suggest we do most of the work over the summer and have our own training sessions in the fall and winter, and build up to some sort of mini-tournament in the spring. Also, as a side note, we cannot (as a club/school) compete against any of the LARPing groups, as they are all college-level. We can join individually; the closest group is at ODU, but I think they've disbanded. Anyways, I have the contact info of their leader (as of September 08) so maybe we can ask for some help/guidance. Respectfully, Bruce EDIT: I forgot, the ODU group is called Rawharad, and their site is: www.angelfire.com/dragon2/rawharad/. Unfortunately, their forum has been down for a while, which leads me to think they've disbanded.

Wow, now this is an excellent idea. I've always wanted to be in an epic battle. Definitely have to do something like this at the end of the year. Probably would have to do it at Princes Ann Park.
If we can't do it there because of authorities or other conflicts, then we may do it in a nearby open field.
My only real concern is (am NOT trying to insult anybody's intellect):
"Will the majority of the members of the Landstown High School Strategy Club have the attention span, communication skills, determination, and work ethic to actually pull this off?" I don't believe that resources will be as much as a problem as trying to establish the traits listed.
Right now (as of the date that I posted this message on the forum), not quite yet. But if we actually communicate with each other and become coordinated, then we can pull this off.
Things we need to do before we can pull this off: 1) Make sure it is OK with the club host and the school. 2) Find out in the club who is interested in this. 3) Establish where we can do this, make sure it is OK (as in NOT breaking any laws), and reserving the location on a set date (if possible) 4) Calculate the expenses for making armor, weapons, etc. (Participants will probably have to make their own weapons and spend their own money), 5) Find out who actually wants to do this from the members who are interested 6) (Maybe) invite other students/others to join us. 7) Make sure that all participants have basically everything they need (correct information on where and when to meet, etc) to arrive there 8) Establish rules, procedures, refs, etc for the event 9) Get the piper to prepare a few, final speeches. One for the last Strategy Club meeting, One before the epic battle at the event, and One after the epic battle.
Only after these main steps are completed, then we can actually do this.
Questions (for everybody that reads this message): 1) Are there any other Dagorhir groups in or within reasonable driving distance (5-10 miles) of Landstown High? 2) Any Strategy Related Groups (Board, Card, RPG, Wargame) that we can meet in the near future at a reasonable time? 3) Anybody have any REA, miniature wargames (not war-based board games), but games Warhammer 40K, Warhammer, etc, that they would be able to bring to the last two meetings? 4) Does anybody have Magic the Gathering or another card game that could break up the "monopoly" of Yu-Gi-Oh? 4) Any ideas for T-Shirt logos, if so then post it through the forum via a image-hosting service. 5) Anybody have any ideas for fundraisers/events that the club can do for the remainder of the year and for next year (that they could post on the forum)?
Any answers + further questions, reply to this message.

1) Nope, if there was, I'd have joined long ago. Dagorhir only requires that you be 15 and have your parent's permission. 2-3) I have Age of Mythology the Board Game from Microsoft and Eagle Games, it's like Risk but has resources instead of unit cards and has units from Age of Mythology the PC game. (the plastic figurines are really detailed!) 4) Pokemon? Actually, the rules are really complex, but I do have 3-10 full decks (three are together, and then I have ~700 additional cards) 4-repeated number) Maybe a hand holding a bunch of cards or two monsters fighting? 5) work with a local store to do a Cashola, but not like a restaurant. Basically, go to a Manga/Anime/Card game store and work with them to create a card tournament. We would advertise and run it, they would advertise and host it, and we'd split the profits 50-50 (or some other division)
EDIT: I forgot to mention, but the ODU group IS part of Dagorhir, it's an outpost of the Gestiguiste region (Northern VA) which is part of the chapter of Aritari (VA)

that's why everyone needs a signed permission form. Dagorhir even requires it to be notarized.

I am going to send an email soon to all strategy club members address the issue of larp-ing. I am going to send instructions as well as pictures of what larp-ing actually is and is not. We will probably have this event AFTER school is over for the year, so that school is not in the way. If for some reason we can't do it at the Princess Ann Park, we may be able to play on (with permission, of course) the (supposed) 5-acres of land that the Chess Club host owns. Would have to find out how far away it is from the school though.
Once the location is set for sure, all we would have to do is tell others about it. If this event becomes large (30+ persons) we will probably have to do this on the Chess Club host's property.
For those who always wanted exercise, but never had the motivation to actually do so because you were too busy enjoying yourselves in non-existent worlds (video games, books, card games, etc); this is the event for you.
